About our talented artist...
Ian Woods has a background in fine arts including wood carving, sculpting and painting.
At the tender age of 17 Ian began to dedicate his life to art and everything involved with it. He achieved an NDD at 20 in Nottingham art college, majoring in printmaking and fine art.
He then went on to take an ATD in Cardiff University and took up a teaching position in Cardigan Grammar school.
Then he moved to the Bristol area and began teaching at St Thomas More comprehensive, becoming Head of Art, a post he held for 30 years.
As a father of 9 children he found time to raise a family and still keep up his love of all things art, natural history and music.
After retiring, he began carving decorative leather belts and instrument straps, moving on to making lovespoons in various exotic woods. An interest in Saxon and Celtic coins and brooches led him to carve a set of decorative mirrors, based on those designs, highly pyrographed and polished. He has since made hair slides, letter openers and other wooden artefacts. He is at present making fridge magnets, both whimsical and decorative, and a range of key tags.
